Comprises a Sanskrit-Chinese dictionary listing proper names, dogmas and general Buddhist terms, arranged alphabetically in Sanskrit followed by the Chinese equivalent and the English translation. The second part contains several indexes listed in seven different languages; Chinese, Pali, Sinhalese, Tibetan, Mongolian, Burmese and Siamese. Ernst John Eitel, a German-born missionary, resided and worked in Hong Kong and Canton between 1862 and 1896. According to the author this is the first book of its kind. Cordier BS 746.
